All because of the situation in Willingen. Horngacher made an official protest against the shoes of the Poles, which resulted in Piotr Żyła and Stefan Hula being disqualified on Saturday. The equipment inspector on behalf of the FIS recognized that the shoes of the Poles are new, and the new equipment should be reported and examined by the FIS by May 1 at the latest. Poles are defending themselves that they are old shoes, only with modifications in the rear part, which are legal. – As we hear, the shoe in the back part has more sponge and sticks out from the leg by three centimeters. There is no point in the law that would not allow this. But Jukkara says it’s a major modification that has not been reported. That’s why I don’t want to agree to it –
According to the findings of Sport.pl, the FIS finally prohibited the team of Michał Doleżal from using these shoes at the Olympic Games in Beijing, because “this modification was considered a large, new solution”. And this is the final decision, although the FIS took advantage of rules that it has not yet created itself, which only adds to the confusion.
Adam Małysz: There is not much more we can do
Now the director of the Polish Ski Association (he did not fly to China, he works in Poland) is referring to the matter. – There is not much else we can do, these matters are decided by Sandro Pertile and Nika Jukkara. We write letters and contact the FIS. We keep hearing that changes had to be reported by May. We also know, however, that the Germans did not do it with their fasteners, and yet they let them. There are no specific procedures that make you have to show something beforehand. I mean, they are, but they are about new things. And we have nothing new, just modified. The Norwegians change the soles in their shoes and this is a greater interference, and nothing comes of it – Małysz is nervous in a conversation with.
Małysz thinks it exploded after he saw the Poles jumping in the prologue in Willingen (Kamil Stoch won, Piotr Żyła was second and Dawid Kubacki sixth). And it was then that he lodged a protest.
Horngacher is on a different team so he will be doing his job. When he was with us, he made a mess of our affairs, which is normal. Everyone fights for theirs, so does he. He felt a threat, I think. He saw our guys jump in the prologue and exploded. He’s impulsive, we know him. It is strange and unfair. Let the situation not cut the boys’ wings. Someone will say that these shoes could be shown in May, but I know that the staff was a bit afraid that someone would not see it. And again: this is not a novelty, but a modification!
The official games in Beijing will start on Friday, but the jumping training on the normal hill will start on Thursday: at 10:30 for women, and at 13:30 for men. The next training sessions on Friday (at 4 and 7 respectively), on Saturday there will be men’s qualification (7:20, from 6:15 trial series) and women’s competition (11:45, trial series at 10:45). On Sunday at 12 noon the men’s competition will start (the trial series one hour earlier).
