Russian ski jumper Irina Avvakumova commented on the refusal of the Russian national hockey team to fly on a shared flight to Beijing with other Olympians. Her words are quoted by Izvestia.
“It would be nice if Ovechkin, Malkin and some powerful Enkhaelites said. Where there are so many show-offs, it is not clear. This is wrong. Okay, you play hockey. Well, someone is skiing. Why do they have such privileges, ”the athlete shamed the hockey players. She called the team’s behavior disrespectful to other Olympians.
On February 2, it became known that the Russian men’s hockey team refused to fly to the Games with representatives of other sports. The reason was the fear of contracting the coronavirus. The national team is concerned that earlier, after a common flight, positive tests were detected in the women’s hockey team.
The Olympic Games will be held from 4 to 20 February. The Russian team led by Alexei Zhamnov will play with teams from the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Denmark in the group stage.
Avvakumova is the 2013 Winter Universiade champion. She also has one victory, three silver and eight bronze medals at the World Cup.
