Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards, which is called the sports “Oscar”. This was reported on the company’s website.
The 25-year-old athlete will compete for the Breakthrough of the Year award. Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus, British tennis player Emma Raducanou, Indian javelin thrower Niraj Chopra, Spain’s Barcelona footballer Pedri and Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas also claim the prize in this nomination.
At the moment, Medvedev is the second racket of the world. Last year, the tennis player won the Grand Slam tournament – US Open. He also reached the final of the Australian Open twice (2021, 2022) and once again to the decisive stage of the US Open in 2019.
The Laureus World Sports Awards will take place virtually this April. The Russians have won this award several times. So, tennis player Marat Safin became the winner in the Breakthrough of the Year nomination in 2001, and track and field athlete Yelena Isinbayeva twice – in 2007 and 2009.
