The Russian national football team will play the play-offs for qualifying for the 2022 World Cup at Moscow’s Dynamo Stadium. This was reported on the website of the Russian Football Union (RFU).
They said that the decision to postpone matches from Luzhniki was made after consultations with Rospotrebnadzor, as well as with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the national federations of other teams. The reason was the unstable epidemiological situation in Moscow and possible related restrictions.
Union Secretary General Alexander Alaev stressed that he could not objectively assess the level of coronavirus incidence that will develop in Moscow by the end of March. In his opinion, holding meetings at the Dynamo stadium will allow fans to be present in the stands, even with additional restrictions.
The RFU announced that the Russian national team will play matches at Luzhniki on December 10. Then Alaev said that the organization hopes to fill the stands of the stadium completely.
The Russian national team in the first match of the joints will play with Poland on March 24. In case of victory in five days, Karpin’s team will have to compete for access to the World Cup with the winner of the game Sweden – Czech Republic.
