Honored coach of Russia Tatyana Tarasova spoke about refereeing at the upcoming 2022 Olympics in Beijing. She is quoted by Sport24.
“If we make a mistake, they will take advantage of it. We must be prepared for the fact that we will be judged severely. Especially in figure skating, where we claim medals, ”said Tarasova. She stressed that athletes always need to be head and shoulders above their rivals so that the judges do not have the opportunity to influence something.
Tarasova recalled the situation that gymnast Dina Averina found herself in at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, and expressed the hope that this would not happen again. Then, in the final of the individual all-around in rhythmic gymnastics, the Israeli Lina Ashram defeated Averina. At the same time, Ashram dropped the item during the last performance. Russian sports officials and fans considered the refereeing at the tournament to be biased.
The Winter Olympic Games in Beijing will be held from February 4 to 20. Athletes will perform in 15 disciplines in seven sports. A total of 109 sets of medals will be played.
