During January 2022, the Consumer Price Index in Metropolitan Lima accumulates a growth of 0.04%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
It is the lowest advance since October 2020, fifteen months ago, when the IPC was 0.02%. For its part, the National Wholesale Price Index fell by 0.26% in January 2022.
Accumulated inflation in the capital closed 2021 at 6.43%, above what was registered in the last thirteen years. On this basis, a new estimate is made for the current year. It should be noted that, in December, the advance was 0.78%.
Meanwhile, the CPI at the National Level grew 6.99% due to price increases in all major consumer groups
Updates to the base year of the CPI are expected for this year. The current one dates from 2009, and it must be modified —according to international standards— every five years. The changes will be seen from next February 10.
The new products that are included in the consumer basket are packaged communication services (duos or trios), streaming platform subscriptions (Netflix, Spotify, HBO, among others) and delivery services and home delivery of products ( delivery). Also services such as medical care for pets and personal protection medical products (surgical gloves, masks).
However, long-distance telephone services, public telephone service, telephone cards, digital cameras, DVDs, and suit making will be excluded from the basket due to their lower consumption.
