Czesław Mihnevich became the head coach of the Polish national football team. This is reported in Twitter national team.
The contract with the 51-year-old specialist is calculated until the end of 2022 with the possibility of extension. The first official match under the leadership of Mikhnevich should be a play-off against Russia for access to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It will take place on March 24th. In case of victory, the national team will have to compete for access to the World Cup with the winner of the Sweden-Czech Republic pair.
Mikhnevich’s last job was the Polish Legia, from which he was fired in October 2021. At the group stage of the Europa League of the 2021/2022 season, the team met with Spartak Moscow and won with a score of 1:0.
Prior to this, it was reported that the Polish national team intends to appoint Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko as head coach. The reason for the team’s refusal from Shevchenko’s candidacy was the difficulty in terminating the Ukrainian’s contract with the Italian Genoa. In addition, Polish officials did not like the friendship of the coach with the owner of the London Chelsea, Roman Abramovich.
