Ukrainian figure skater Ivan Shmuratko held a meeting with the press before the start of the Olympic Games in Beijing. It is reported by “Match TV”.
According to the source, the athlete communicated with journalists in English, including answering questions in Russian. When asked to evaluate the recommendations of the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine not to give interviews in Russian, Shmuratko replied: “All I can do is do my job here.”
The figure skater performs in men’s singles. He is a three-time champion of Ukraine and a silver medalist at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in team competition.
On January 21, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine advised the athletes to refuse interviews in Russian. Also, athletes from Ukraine were forbidden to pose with Russians in joint photos.
The Winter Olympic Games in Beijing will be held from 4 to 20 February.
