Russian skeletonists Nikita Tregubov and Vladislav Semyonov will miss the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. This was reported to TASS by the President of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation Elena Anikina.
Athletes will not be able to compete in China due to insufficient number of negative tests for coronavirus. Instead, Evgeny Rukosuev and Daniil Romanov will go to the tournament. The Russian bobsleigh and skeleton team will fly to Beijing on Monday, January 31.
Anikina added that some athletes are still waiting for the results of tests for coronavirus, so they will fly to the Games later. “If they don’t make it in time, then they have a replacement, which is being prepared now at the base and is being tested for coronavirus every day,” the head of the federation said.
Tregubov became the silver medalist at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. The 26-year-old athlete also has silver and bronze medals at the World Championships.
The Beijing Olympics will start on February 4th. Skeletonists will compete for medals on February 10th.
