Possibility of Rafael Nadal visiting Ecuador in November “is very advanced,” says Nicolás Lapentti | Other Sports | sports

The Spanish tennis player would arrive in Quito in 2022 as part of an exhibition tour like the one Roger Federer starred in three years ago.

The retired Guayaquil tennis player Nicolás Lapentti, who managed the visit of the Swiss legend Roger Federer to Quito in November 2019, said this Sunday that “the possibility is very advanced” that the Spanish Rafael Nadal -who the same day achieved in the Open from Australia his 21st Grand Slam title, more than any other in history – visit Ecuador at the end of 2022.

“If we manage to close it, get what is necessary for it to come, we could have it in Quito on Sunday November 27”, declared Lapentti on the radio CRE Satellite, after the 35-year-old Spaniard beat Russian Daniil Medvedev at the Rod Laver Arena (Melbourne) and celebrated for the second time in Australia.

Lapentti recounted: “The first week of January, just the day before Carlos Costa (manager) with Rafa, Moya (Carlos, coach) and his team travel to Australia, I had a conversation with Carlos and the possibility is very advanced that Nadal can come to Ecuador”.

“The idea is for Rafa to tour Latin America similar to the one Federer did. We hope to confirm it in the coming weeks or months. It would be a luxury,” added the 45-year-old former tennis player.

In October 2021, Lapentti recalled that “everything was arranged” for Nadal to arrive in the country in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented it. Then he said: “Definitely yes (the possibility of the Spaniard visiting Ecuador). Two or three weeks ago was the last time I talked to his manager trying to see dates for 2022.

However, the organizer pointed out: “It is a matter of adjusting details. It must be confirmed, it is not. It’s very advanced.”

Nadal became the top winner of the Grand Slam this Sunday, with 21 titles, one more than Federer and Novak Djokovic. (D)
