Paquetá scores and Lyon beat Sparta Praga in a seven-goal Europa League game

Isolated leader of Group A of Europa League, O Lyon beat Sparta Praga by 4-3 this Thursday, away from home. With Lucas Paquetá’s goal, the French reached nine points and stabilized at the top of the group.

Even finishing more on goal and keeping control of ball possession, the team led by coach Peter Bozs left behind on the scoreboard. With less than 20 minutes of the first stage, the Czech Republic team went into the net twice, with Lukas Haraslín scoring both goals.

Despite the large disadvantage on the scoreboard and the strong pressure from the opposing fans, Lyon continued to attack and seek to score. Near the break, Karl Toko Ekambi received a good launch from Jerome Boateng, faced the goalkeeper and finished in the right corner, scoring the first of the French in the match.

With the entry of Lucas Paquetá in the second half, Lyon increased offensive pressure and created even more opportunities. In less than 10 minutes of the second half, Lyon got the tie and reached the goal of the comeback. Houssem Aor and Paquetá, who hit a precise finish from the right angle, scored for the team.

With Malo Gusto sent off 30 minutes into the second half, Lyon came under pressure from Sparta Praga, but didn’t go through any major scares. In stoppage time, Karl Toko Ekambi received a cross from Bruno Guimarães and submitted from the left corner.

The Czech club even scored its third goal in the match, 48 minutes into the second half. However, after checking the video referee, the goal was disallowed by David Hancko’s offside position. Sparta Praga, however, went into the net again, with Ladislav Krejčí two minutes later.

With the victory of Lyon, which remained at the top of Group A with nine points, the team coached by Pavel Vrba continues in 2nd place, with four added. Rangers, in 3rd place with three points, and Brondby, who added just one point and occupies the last place, close the key.
