The Public Mobility Company (Movildenor EP – EMP) authorized a new urban transport rate for three Ibarra bus operators. That decision has generated discomfort among users and even in various local authorities.
In this city from next November 1, the new value of $ 0.35 will be applied, which, according to the transportation leaders, is anti-technical. Marcelo Yépez, president of the 28 de Septiembre cooperative, explained that Movildenor-EP carried out a study that determines a cost of $ 0.68.
Luis Ruiz, manager of the public company, argued that the decision is a compensation based on Resolution 050 of the National Transit Agency (ANT). He added that technically a financial formula indicates that the consumer cost index establishes a rate of $ 0.68 and that they had to choose one of three options: go up to that value, reduce the number of buses in the urban transport service or achieve a compensation with a 15% increase, authorized by the ANT.
This increase, from $ 0.30 to $ 0.35, is rejected by several citizens due to the economic situation. In social networks, users questioned the operation of certain units that show lack of maintenance, mistreatment of the drivers, among other objections.
Ediles de Ibarra in the last session of the Council demanded to suspend the increase and assured that the mayor Andrea Scacco and they did not know about the increase.
Councilor Miriam Salgado considered that it is not the right time to raise the cost of tickets, since it would affect the economy of the different sectors and asked Movildenor EP to review the decision.
Scacco recalled the possibility of separating Ibarra from the North Transit Association, made up of fifteen cantons, from the provinces of Carchi, Imbabura, Esmeraldas and north of Pichincha.
Óscar Caicedo, municipal councilor, mentioned that they reject the increase in tickets, but clarified that the EMP has jurisdiction over these determinations. The mayor announced that next week the Council will address the issue of the separation of the public company.
This Thursday, the carriers also held a protest to demand financial compensation for the rise in fuel prices. (I)
