Union Berlin delegation attacked by Feyenoord fans in the Netherlands

Several members of the German Union Berlin delegation, including leaders, were attacked last Wednesday by people who were believed to be supporters of the Dutch Feyenoord, in a restaurant in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The incident occurred on the eve of the match between the Berlin club and Feyenoord, for the Conference League, a new European club competition.

Those involved in the attack threw chairs and cups at the German team’s delegation, according to information from the AFP, which confirmed what had happened with a police spokesman in the Dutch port city.

A woman from the German delegation was slightly injured in the head and had to be taken to hospital, being released shortly thereafter, police said. One of the attackers, a 25-year-old man from Rotterdam, was arrested.

According to the Dutch press, the president of Union Berlin, Dirk Zingler, was with the group of 25 people attacked. Feyenoord spoke on social media and apologized for the act in a statement, a move Union Berlin thanked on Twitter.
