Jorge Jesus comments Bayern’s rout on Benfica: “I don’t feel frustrated”

This Wednesday, the Benfica received the Bayern Munchen and was thrashed 4-0, in a game valid for the third round of the group stage of the Champions League. Despite the elastic victory, the Germans scored the first goal only at 25 of the second half.

The tough defeat did not shake Jorge Jesus, coach of Encarnados, who praised his team’s performance.

“I don’t feel frustrated, when you play against a team of this quality, you can’t be frustrated, you can just see what happened in the game. For 75 minutes, Benfica was always in the game and we played against a great team. We went all the way to Sané’s set-piece goal. Before that, we even had two great opportunities, Neuer, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, took two goals from us, by Darwin and Diogo Gonçalves,” he told Eleven Sports.

“We fed the game until 1-0, but after the second goal, we disconnected. Gnabry came in and messed up a lot with Grimaldo on our left side”, he added.

Finally, the former Flamengo coach stated that the defeat by four goals difference was unfair.

“We didn’t deserve to concede four goals for the game we played, so I’m frustrated, not for the game itself. But who took 4 to 0? I think it was from Bayern Munich”, concluded the Portuguese.

The result hampered Benfica’s fight for a place in the round of 16. The Encarnados occupy the second position in Group E with four points, one more than Barcelona. In the next round, the Portuguese face Bayern again, this time in Germany, on November 2nd.

Before that, Benfica has three national commitments. This Sunday, he faces Vizela, for the Portuguese Championship. Next Wednesday, they face Vitória, in the Portuguese Cup. Finally, duels with Estoril, in the running points tournament, on October 30th.
