Vehicle traffic increased by 19.6% nationwide during August 2021

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) announced that the national index of the flow of vehicles registers an increase of 19.6% in the month of August compared to the same month in 2020 (year of the pandemic). This increase represents light and heavy vehicles that pass through toll units nationwide.

INEI explained that the 28.5% increase in light units and 9.5% in heavy units would be due to “lower restrictions on the transit of people and vehicles due to the resumption of economic activities progressively according to alert levels. (moderate, high, very high and extreme) of contagion by provinces and departments ”, they pointed out.

“Although the displacement of Light vehicles grew by 28.5%. INEI reported that in August 2021 this increase compared to the previous year has been influenced by the resumption of economic activities according to the level of contagion alert in provinces and departments, reduction of restrictions on cultural and gastronomic activities, interprovincial transport, archaeological zones, among others. ”Says the INEI statement.

Among the checkpoints with the highest traffic flow are, to the north, San Martín (Aguas Claras 88.2%, Pongo 62.8% and Moyobamba 32.1%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 69.0%, Piura-Sullana 42, 6%, Paita 30.4% and Chulucanas 17.5%), Áncash (Huarmey 59.4%), La Libertad (Chicama 51.8%, Pacanguilla 51.1% and Virú 47.8%), Lambayeque (Desvío Olmos 51.6%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca – Pucará 51.1%).

In the south, in Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 140.6% and Ilo 136.1%), Cusco (Ccasacancha 120.2%), Arequipa (Patahuasi 119.3%, Matarani-Concesión 106.3% and Uchumayo-Concesión 82 , 2%), Puno (Caracoto 94.1% and Santa Lucía 90.2%), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 88.9% and Marcona 71.6%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 83.9%) and Apurímac (Pampamarca 68.7% and Pichirhua 62.8%).

In the south, Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 84.7% and Ilo 79.1%), Puno (Caracoto 80.8% and Santa Lucía 34.5%), Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concesión 36.2%, Patahuasi 30.5 % and Matarani-Concesión 19.6%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 34.5%), Ica (Jahuay-Chincha 33.5% and Marcona 12.9%), Cusco (Ccasacancha 27.6%) and Apurímac (Pichirhua 27.5% and Pampamarca 26.4%).
