In a boat of fishermen, who were attacked by a bear in the Tyumen region, they found a smooth-bore unregistered 20-gauge rifle. Local newspaper TyumenTimes suspected that boxer Ilya Medvedev, who killed a wild animal with a knife, and two of his companions could be poachers.
According to the ministry, on the evening of October 19, the Uvat regional department of the State Hunting Department from the unified dispatching service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a message about a bear attack on people. A caller to the Emergencies Ministry said that he and two other people were fishing on the Irtysh River. As they were returning through the forest, they were attacked by a bear. One of the men died, the second received multiple injuries, the third was not injured. The latter managed to call an ambulance and took the victim by motor boat to the village of Alymka.
In the evening of the same day, the head of the Uvat regional department of the state hunting department, Dmitry Khalturin, together with the state inspector Vladimir Migura, went to the scene of the incident in the Povarovsky reserve. Due to the darkness, they were unable to look around, so they returned on the morning of October 20 with the police. Upon arrival, they found the body of the deceased not far from the river, and next to it a shot female bear of 3-4 years old. A bear den was also noticed 30 meters from the incident, next to which there were many cartridges and traces of blood.
Information about the bear attack appeared on October 20. Boxer Medvedev killed the beast with a knife, but was seriously injured. Doctors put him into an artificial coma, but the athlete’s life is not in danger.
