LigaPro falls eight places in the world ranking of domestic tournaments, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics

The Ecuadorian football championship is ranked 18th globally, fifth in South America.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) ranked the Ecuadorian Professional Football League (LigaPro) in 18th place in its annual ranking of domestic leagues. This, despite the fact that in 2021 the organization of clubs had to overcome questions in aspects such as arbitration, financial control, among others.

The Iffhs published over the weekend the update of its ranking, led worldwide for the first time by Brazil (Brasileirao, 1,406 points). Competitions from England (Premier League, 1,204), Italy (Serie A, 1,060.50), Spain (LaLiga, 1,028) and France (Ligue 1,938) follow to complete the group of the best five.

At the level of South America, in addition to the Brazilian, the leagues of Argentina (9th), Paraguay (10th), Colombia (11th) and Ecuador are better placed. Following in order are Uruguay (26th), Bolivia (43rd), Venezuela (50th), Chile (55th) and Peru (65th).

The LigaPro is the organizer of the first division of Ecuadorian football since the 2019 edition. In January 2020, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics ranked the tournament in 14th place worldwide, while for 2021 it was promoted to 10th place, which entails a drop of eight squares this 2022.

Olmedo did not appear against Católica in the opening game of the LigaPro

Last season, the national football championship had to deal with harsh criticism of arbitration by clubs, including managers, coaching staff and players. The organization was also questioned because the final second leg of the tournament, between Emelec and Independiente del Valle at the George Capwell stadium, was played on a field with stagnant water, making the normal development of the game for the title impossible. Likewise, teams have been suspended for not meeting their economic commitments or have been absent from games. In addition, the LigaPro has limited itself to “recommending” the disqualification of players whose medical conditions represent a risk in their professional activity, such as the recent case of striker Joao Paredes in Mushuc Runa (congenital arrhythmia heart disease that can end in sudden death).
