The measure will be in force until January 31.
Mayor Santiago Guarderas informed, through a video on social networks, that the metropolitan Emergency Operations Committee (COE) decided, this Monday, January 24, to declare Quito on orange (high) alert. Until this morning the measures due to the epidemiological situation were in red (very high). With this, the capacity restrictions are lightened.
The measures will remain from January 24 to 31, 2022. The authorities reported that will continue to monitor to make decisions for the month of February.
The capacity in public transport remains at 50%, during rush hour (from 06:00 to 09:30 and from 16:00 to 21:00); and 75% in off-peak hours.
This is how the capacity with orange alert remains:
- Bars and nightclubs, tolerance and nightlife centers, training centers and gyms that carry out contact activities may operate with a restricted capacity of 30% and compliance with the biosafety protocol issued by the Ministry of Health.
- Malls (including food courts), supermarkets and markets, bank and corporate agencies with 65% capacity.
- Restaurants: inside 60% and outside 70%.
- Cinemas and theaters with 50% capacity.
- gyms With the exception of gyms and training centers for the practice of sports and/or contact activities 65%.
- Auditoriums, convention centers, tourist accommodation (in spaces where events are held) and reception and banquet rooms when corporate and academic events are held -MICE: 70% indoors and 80% outdoors.
- Auditoriums, convention centers, tourist accommodation (in the spaces where events are held) and the reception and banquet rooms when they hold social events: interior 60% and exterior 70%.
- Public shows (except fairs and MICE events) with capacity of 30%.

According to the Secretary of Health, Francis Viteri, until the week three, 1,473 infections were registered and a single death due to COVID-19. “At the moment there is a 54.4% positivity. The data reflects a fall of the curve in contagions and in the different population sectors. As to vaccination is registered in 92.3% of the population”, says a bulletin of the Municipality.
Guarderas called on citizens to continue with the vaccination schedule and comply with biosecurity measures, in order to avoid an increase in infections and the collapse of hospital centers. (I)
