The Polish national team scored the first point in the main phase of this year’s European Championship thanks to a 29:29 draw with Russia. Earlier, the team led by Patryk Rombl lost 31:42 with Norway (and became the first team to lose 40 goals in the tournament) and 18:28 with Sweden, so the white and reds have no chance of being promoted to the semi-finals. The mere promotion to the top twelve of the tournament should be considered a great success.
Controversy after the match with Russia. How many steps did Sergei Kosorotov take? Poles invite you to a math lesson
The Polish Handball Association has published a recording of the action of Sergei Kosorotov in the last seconds of the match against Poland. “Math lesson: Count the steps” – we read in the tweet. The recording shows that the player of Orlen Wisy Pock, after receiving the ball, took four steps before throwing at the goal guarded by Mateusz Zembrzycki. The regulations make it clear that a maximum of three steps is allowed, which means that a goal should not be recognized.
Two referees from France, Charlotte and Julie Bonaventura, after the video verification, decided to recognize the hit by Sergei Kosorotov, and they probably only paid attention to whether the ball managed to enter the goal before the time expired. Dawid Borucki, a referee associated with the Wielkopolska Handball Association, believes that the goal was scored correctly. “The steps are not subject to video verification. With each video verification there is information about what is being checked. Here it was checked whether the ball hit the goal before the end of the match” – noted the referee.
On Tuesday, January 25, the Polish national team will have the last match of the main phase at the European Championship. The rivals of the team led by Patryk Rombl will be the Spaniards, who are the leaders of the group and are sure of the games in the semi-finals.
