THE Real Madrid hosted Elche, this Sunday, and drew 2-2, in a game valid for the 22nd round of the Spanish Championship.
The hosts dominated the first half, but stopped in the defenses of goalkeeper Badía. At 33, Vinicius Júnior suffered a penalty and the You meringues had the opportunity to open the scoring. However, Benzema hit over the goal. Nine minutes later, Lucas Boye, with a header, scored for Elche.
The hosts kept up the pressure in the final stage, however, Elche managed to expand. At 31, Boye played for Pere Milla who, free of marking, finished with no chance for goalkeeper Courtois. Five minutes later, the same Milla played with his arm inside the area and the referee gave Real a penalty. Modric did not waste and converted. The tie came in the 47th minute. Vinicius Júnior feinted the mark and crossed to his compatriot Militão, who scored with a header.
Despite the setback, Carlo Ancelotti’s team maintains the championship lead with 50 points, four more than second-placed Sevilla. On the other hand, Elche is in 15th place.
Real Madrid returns to the field on February 3, against Athletic Bilbao, for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. Elche will face Alavés, on the 5th, for La Liga.
