Braga turns in stoppage time and beats Sporting for the Portuguese

Sporting lost to Braga this Saturday, 2-1, at home, for the Portuguese Championship. With the result, the team misses the chance to touch the leader Porto, but remains in the runner-up, while Braga remains in fourth position.

The home team opened the scoring in the 24th minute, with the team’s ace Pedro Gonçalves. The Portuguese-Brazilian Matheus Nunes made a beautiful shot with the trivela and the forward just pushed it towards the opponent’s goal.

Sporting continued superior in the match, finishing more on goal and having more possession of the ball. Palhinha midfielder was also important to maintain physical imposition and control in midfield.

In the second stage, the team led by Carlos Carvalhal started to be in danger, mainly with the deep throws in the back of the veteran defender Coates.

At 51, the Portuguese-Brazilian Galeno was fouled in the area and, after consulting VAR, the referee awarded the penalty. The attacker himself went to charge and tied the game.

After conceding the goal, Rúben Amorim’s men began to pressure Braga in search of an advantage on the scoreboard. Pedro Gonçalves was essential to pull the offensive transition and find free teammates in the penalty area.

The team created good opportunities, but ran into the strong defense of the opponent, who always managed to stop the play at the right moment.

With the opponent launching themselves into the attack, Braga managed to escape the defensive zone and, with a shot from outside the area, Jean-Baptiste Gorby, only 19 years old, turned the game around in stoppage time, guaranteeing the victory away from home. Sporting, on the other hand, suffered its second defeat in the competition, being the first within their domains.

Sporting returns to the field next Wednesday, against Santa Clara, for the Portuguese League Cup, while Braga faces Moreirense, next Sunday, for the Portuguese Championship.
