Boca Juniors officializes Benedetto’s return

Through the club’s social networks, Boca Juniors officially announced the return of Benedetto, a striker that fans miss.

“At home again”, wrote the Buenos Aires club this Friday.

The 31-year-old had already revealed his deal with the club, but the official announcement had not yet taken place. Last year, he even negotiated with São Paulo, but Tricolor gave up the transfer due to the high values.

Benedetto left Boca Juniors in 2019, when he was sold to Olympique de Marseille for 16 million euros. In the current season, he was on loan at Elche, from Spain.

The loan contract would run until June 2022, and the link with the French team was valid until June 2023, but the athlete chose to return to football in his native country. According to information in the Argentine press, Benedetto signed a three-year contract with Boca.

With the shirt of Olympique de Marseille, the Argentine striker scored just 17 goals in 71 matches. At Elche, there were 16 games and only two goals.

In his first spell at Boca, between 2016 and 2019, Benedetto scored 45 goals in 76 games, was two-time Argentine champion and lifted a Supercup cup.

Darío caught the attention of Brazilian football when he scored two goals in the first leg and one in the return match of the Argentine team’s duel against Palmeiras, in the 2018 Libertadores semifinal.

However, Boca was defeated by River Plate in the grand final of the continental tournament.
