The validity of the cards that have already expired is extended until March 31

Applies to Ecuadorians and foreigners domiciled in the country. Those who must renew or replace it can use the certificate of identity and marital status.

Those who have an expired or soon to expire identity card can continue to use this document as it is until March 31, 2022.

This after the Civil Registry extended, through a resolution, the validity of the identity document that is expired or expired.

Public or private institutions that require citizens to present an identity card must also abide by the resolution.

This measure applies to Ecuadorians and foreigners who are domiciled in the country.

In a statement, the entity states that “the general director of Civil Registry, Identification and Identification with Resolution No. 001-DIGERCIC-CGAJ-DPyN-2022 arranged that the validity of the identity card is recognized and extended, when it is invalidated due to expiration of the validity period”.

Article 3 of that resolution also indicates that the certificate of identity and marital status has “the same validity as the identity card; therefore, citizens who wish to renew or replace their identity card in the indicated period (until March 31), may make use of this certificate.”

This certificate of identity and marital status can be obtained at the Virtual Civil Registry Agency, without the user having to go physically to one of the offices, agencies or face-to-face channel, it is added.

The resolution, given in Quito at the beginning of this month, is in force.

In the event that there are doubts about the provisions of the resolution, these must be raised for consultation before the highest authority of the institution (Civil Registry), who will resolve them through a prior opinion of the general coordination of the Legal Department of the Civil Registry, under the management of the Directorate of Legal Advice, as stated in said resolution, also uploaded on the entity’s web portal.

Said document also leaves the director free to revoke the current resolution present at any time, if deemed appropriate, as stated in the first of the three general provisions. (I)
