Oscar confirms negotiations with Barcelona

Midfielder Oscar, who currently plays for Shanghai FC, from China, confirmed recent speculation and said he was in talks with Barcelona.

In an interview with journalist Marcelo Bechler, from TNT Sports, the player said that the desire of the Spanish club is to sign a contract until the end of this season. However, the midfielder also highlighted Barça’s difficulty in signing up new players due to Spain’s financial fair play.

“They were talking to my agent. I hear you’ve had this interest and that they’re still talking, seeing if there’s any chance. It is difficult to register players too, so I would have to talk to my club to release them. In fact they were wanting more to stay until the end of the season. Barcelona is going through difficult times to sign up players, I was even having this difficulty with Daniel Alves. But you’re having this contact and it’s nice when a big club is looking for you”, he said.

In order to register new players, Barcelona must adapt to the salary limit of its squad. Defender Samuel Umtiti recently renewed his contract and reduced his salary, something that was crucial for the club to be able to sign forward Ferran Torres. Philippe Coutinho’s loan to Aston Villa also brought relief to Barça’s accounts.

Formed in the youth ranks of São Paulo, Oscar had a spell at Internacional before moving to Chelsea, where he reached the height of his career. In 2017, the player left Europe and migrated to Chinese football.
