The appointment in Manchester was attended by the president Gianni Infantino and representatives of the English union and the International Federation of Professional Soccer Players.
The soccer associations, including the PFA and FIFPro, as well as players like Paul Pogba and Juan Mata, they met this Thursday with FIFA to address, among other issues, the growing party load and the possibility of establishing the World Cup every two years.
At the meeting, which took place in Manchester, Gianni Infantino was present, FIFA president, Arsene Wenger, FIFA development director and one of the biggest promoters of the World Cup every two years, and David Aganzo, president of FIFPro
“This has been the opportunity for all the footballers to share their vision of the current problems in the structure of the game and the schedule with FIFA. If those who play this sport have to be part of these conversations, so these dialogues are essential,” said Maheta Molango, president of the PFA (players union in England).
This meeting responds to complaints by footballers regarding the fact that they have not been taken into account in the process of loading the soccer calendar with more matches, as well as in the implementation of the World Cup every two years that FIFA wants to do after 2026.
FIFA has held a “constructive meeting on the welfare of footballers”, highlighted the rector of world football, “a meeting that has taken place after the conversations held with players and representatives during the last few months regarding the international calendar”, he pointed out.
“FIFA is listening to everyone. I am glad that we have had the opportunity to have listened to the footballers and that we have been able to explain our way of thinking and how we can protect the health of the footballers and the quality of international football,” said Infantino.
“We have taken note of your invaluable opinion and we are sure that we will continue to maintain a constructive dialogue with them. This is what we have wanted since this process began: to provide a platform where all points of view can be valued. We have a real opportunity to change things. We want to thank the PFA and FIFPRO for their collaboration and for bringing the players together. We are looking forward to continuing to promote dialogue in the rest of the world,” said the FIFA president. (D)
