When all the signs in heaven and earth indicate that Adam Nawałka will be the new manager of the Polish national team, after the Wednesday meeting of the PZPN board, there was again a lot of confusion.
“Przegląd Sportowy” in turn wrote, which caused another avalanche of speculation. Nawałka would only be a backup.
“If the Polish Football Association offers 3 million euros a year, Shevchenko will negotiate”
In view of such a large information confusion, we decided to ask at the source, i.e. in the surroundings. The answer is unambiguous. – If the Polish Football Association offers a salary of EUR 3 million a year, Andrij can sit down for talks – we heard.
This, of course, means that even with the considerable will of President Cezary Kulesza, the scenario of bringing Shevchenko to the Polish national team is impossible to implement. All because the previous record holder in terms of earnings in the Polish national team, Paulo Sousa, earned over three times less – around 850,000 euros a year.
When asked if Shevchenko would agree to a salary of EUR 1 million per year, which could already be within reach, the answer was equally eloquent – no.
To sum up – Andriy Shevchenko cannot be a favorite to take over the Polish national team, because the Polish Football Association simply cannot afford him, and the financial discrepancies between the Ukrainian’s expectations and the possibilities of the Polish Football Association are huge.
