World champions in 1986, Argentines receive honorary coach license from CONMEBOL

This Wednesday, CONMEBOL granted an Honorary Coach License to former players Sergio Batista and Jorge Burruchaga and coach Carlos Salvador Bilardo, world champions for the Argentine national team in 1986.

The award was made in honor of their careers in South American and world football. The license was handed over by the President of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, and the Deputy Secretary General of the institution, Nery Pumpido.

The two players became coaches after the end of their careers. Batista has been technical director since 1994 and was marked as the Olympic champion coach with Argentina in 2008. Burruchaga has been a football coach since 1999, having worked in Argentine, Mexican and Paraguayan football.

The license was also granted to the coach of the 1986 champion team. Carlos Bilardo won, in addition to the World Cup with Argentina, the Intercontinental Cup and the Libertadores with Estudiantes, in 1968 and 1969.

The Honorary Coach License is given to technical directors who have excelled in South American football. Ever Hugo Almeida, Francisco Maturana, Zagallo, César Luis Menotti and Alfio Basile, among others, have already received the honor.
