Until December, more than half a million dollars was the liability of the rector of national football in concept of ‘previous technical bodies’.
Although Hernán Darío Gómez ceased to be Ecuador’s coach two and a half years ago, the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) owes a balance to the Colombian coach, an amount that until December 2021 comprised an amount of $516,263.69 corresponding to “bodies previous technicians.
The number is derived from a economic report from January 1 to December 31, 2021, de la FEF, to which THE UNIVERSE agreed.
In the document, in the section ‘Technical staff payable’, of the liabilities chapter, it is indicated: “Due to the biosecurity measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only had the capacity of 30% and 50% of the box office, and being dates followed by qualifiers (heading for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar) caused the amounts to be paid for prizes of the matches won, tied and travel expenses to be accumulated, amounting to $1,540,076″.
Of the $1,540,076, $ 723,907.72 corresponded to the “current coaching staff”, in the Tricolor of seniors commanded by the Argentine Gustavo Alfaro; $516,263.69 to “previous technical bodies”; and $299,904.15 for “others”.
“It should be noted that these balances correspond to December fees and prizes, which in January 2022 were mostly canceled, except for that of former technical director Gómez and his assistants, which will be paid during this year,” the report adds.
The Colombian Gómez was presented as coach of Ecuador on August 1, 2018, in the presidency of Carlos Villacís in the FEF, and resigned on July 31, 2019, already in the administration of Francisco Egas. In those twelve months, Roll he failed with the Tri in the Copa América in Brazil, in which the selected teams were involved in a controversy for starring in an extra-football activity on a floor of the hotel where the tricolor team was staying.
After a few months that Jorge Célico was interim coach of the National Team, the Spanish-Dutch Jordi Cruyff was presented as coach on January 13, 2020. Without directing any game or practice, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the strategist resigned on July 23 of the same year.
In an interview with this newspaper, in August 2020, Cruyff confirmed that he received less than two months of salary as helmsman of the National Team: “We not only give up all the months that we do not receive, but to everything that came later because we signed until December 2022″.
Cruyff: It hurts me that they think I got six months salary, it’s not real; I gave up almost everything
In September 2020, Gustavo Alfaro, current technical director of the Tricolor, arrived.
In 2021, Ecuador played six games at home, that is, five for World Cup qualifiers and one friendly, none with full bleachers due to provisions of the Emergency Operations Committee, due to the pandemic. (D)
