Real Sociedad gets the ticket for the quarterfinals of the Cup after beating Atlético de Madrid

Real Sociedad qualified for the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey this Wednesday after beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 at the Royal Arena. The txuri-urdin team was far superior to the rival in the round of 16 match.

The Real started strongly. Imanol Alguacil’s men took possession of the ball and began to generate scoring chances. The first warning was a header from Elustondo that went wide, and at minute 10 Januzaj’s shot hit the post. Atlético de Madrid defended in a low block, but in the 15th minute they were close to taking the lead; Carrasco left his rivals behind, entered the area, and his shot crashed into the goalpost defended by Álex Remiro.

After a start with chances, the match entered a phase of tense calm, and in the 32nd minute Januzaj appeared to make it 1-0 after finishing off a Zaldua side center with a header.

The goal did not change the script of the match, as Real continued to dominate, and Atlético de Madrid remained behind. The visiting team did not put the San Sebastian team’s defense in too much trouble in the first half, but before reaching the break, Joao Félix sent a shot from outside the area to the post.

At the start of the second half, Real Sociedad put the victory on track with the goal scored by Sorloth (2-0): An error by Felipe left the striker alone against goalkeeper Oblak, and the Norwegian defined masterfully.

Atlético did not react after conceding the second goal, and Real played comfortably. In the final stretch, the team led by Imanol Alguacil waited behind for their rival. The mattress team only generated one goal chance in the final minutes, but Remiro avoided the visitors’ goal after emerging victorious in a one-on-one with Cunha.

In the end, Real won a deserved victory that they were able to celebrate with their fans.
