The debut of Michael Morales in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the most talked about and debated topic this week in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) in Ecuador. As much as their fight is not part of the main event (main event) of UFC 270, the spotlight has been placed on the Ecuadorian for his talent and because four months ago he surprised the company’s boss (Dana White) with his performance at the Contender Series in Las Vegas. His compatriot Adrián Luna Martinetti, who next February will dispute the belt of the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Warrior Challenge Mexico company, describes it in an interview with EL UNIVERSO.
“I see it very well, and when a fighter believes it, for me it is everything. I think Michael is at a point where he believes everything and knows that he is very good. He is a very talented person. He is in his moment and he is going to win his fight. Physically, he’s doing very well,” said Morales’ partner, who also trains at the Entram Gym in Tijuana.
The Ecuadorian athlete (12-0 MMA) will debut in the UFC this Saturday, January 22 in Anaheim (California) in a duel in the welterweight category against the American Trevin Giles (14-3-0 MMA, 5-3 UFC).
The contract that binds him to the company was won by the tricolor last September after winning the Dana White’s Contender Series against the Kazakh Nikolay Veretennikov.
Since then, Morales has made his base camp in Mexico, at the Entram Gym, under the guidance of MMA coach Raúl Arvizu and Andy Caballero (in the physical conditioning area), but on January 4 he returned to Ecuador for a few days due to to a procedure with his visa that he had to complete before his participation in the UFC. On Friday the 14th he headed to Las Vegas to finish his work in the camp of the Mexican Brandon Moreno.
Martinetti indicated: “It is possible that (Morales) wins his fight in the first round.”
“I think that the part that he deserves (keeping his current contract) is already earned. The way he won the Contender he had already earned his spot. Now he only has to fight”, added the Guayaquil bantamweight. (D)
