Matches of the Russian women’s national basketball team in the qualifying tournament for the 2022 World Cup have been moved from the United States to the Dominican Republic. This was reported on the website of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF).
The US authorities refused to let Russian women into the country due to the lack of a type of vaccination against coronavirus infection recognized by WHO. The Russian national team was supposed to play in Washington with the teams of the USA, Belgium and Puerto Rico. The RFB said that the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), as well as the Russian delegation, tried to negotiate with the US authorities, but their attempts were unsuccessful.
Thus, the Russian team will play with the Belgians on February 13, and on February 14 with the Puerto Rico team in the Dominican Republic. The meeting between the teams of Russia and the USA will not take place. The Americans qualified for the World Championships as current Olympic champions.
The World Championship will be held in Sydney, Australia from September 22 to October 1.
