Averbukh estimated the chances of Russian men’s singles at the Beijing Olympics

Choreographer Ilya Averbukh believes that Russian men will not be able to claim prizes in single skating at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. The specialist assessed the medal chances of the Russians in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“The boys just don’t shine for us. The best result is if we are in the top five, ”said the specialist. He stressed that the main competitors of the Russians are Japan and the United States – countries that are not among the European ones.

On January 14, Russian Mark Kondratyuk became the European champion in men’s singles. At the tournament in Tallinn, the 18-year-old athlete received a total of 286.56 points for two programs. His compatriots Andrei Mozalev and Evgeny Semenenko took fourth and fifth places respectively.

Nathan Chen is the current world figure skating champion. The 2018 Olympics were won by Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu.
