Russian Olympic volleyball champion, disqualified for doping, explained

Russian volleyball player Dmitry Musersky, disqualified for doping, called the suspension unfair. The athlete explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He stated that he did not remember the name of the banned substance found on him, but it was of plant origin. Therefore, according to Musersky, doping, the amount of which was very small, could enter his body with food.

The volleyball player also said that he was caught doping in 2013 by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), but the organization hid this result from both him and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). “I don’t understand why, because then the maximum disqualification would have been only three months,” the player added.

A few years later, according to Musersky, WADA got the data, so it was decided to punish him. He also noted that he was not able to open the second sample. In addition, the net test taken several weeks after the positive was not counted. “One way or another, in 2021, I must be responsible for the fact that in 2013 there was an accident, and the result was hidden. It seems to me that this is extremely dishonest, ”Musarsky said.

The disqualification of the volleyball player who won the 2012 Olympics as part of the Russian national team became known earlier on Wednesday, October 20. The suspension period will start on April 5, 2021 and end on January 4, 2022.
