Russian athletes have won 218 tickets to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko announced this to RBC Sport.
He also named the total number of Russians who can qualify. They, according to Chernyshenko, are 261. He stressed that the selection will continue until the end of January, so Russian athletes will be able to increase their representation.
Chernyshenko said that the achievements of Russians in the international arena in the current Olympic cycle give hope for a successful performance in Beijing. “We hope that the men’s hockey team will confirm the Olympic gold won in Pyeongchang in 2018,” Chernyshenko added.
The 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing will be held from 4 to 20 February. The Russian national team, due to the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), will compete in a neutral status.
