Australian authorities allow Djokovic to compete in Australian Open in 2023

The Australian authorities allowed the early return to the country of Serb Novak Djokovic. Prime Minister Scott Morrison is quoted by Business day.

“The ban really lasts for three years, but it is possible to return earlier under appropriate circumstances. This will be considered in a timely manner,” Morrison said. According to him, Djokovic still has the opportunity to participate in the Australian Open in 2023.

On January 16, Djokovic was deported from Australia. The Serb was banned from visiting the country for three years. The athlete admitted that he was extremely disappointed with this decision.

On January 14, the Australian authorities revoked Djokovic’s visa and decided to deport him. The Serbian tennis player is in trouble because his visa does not include a medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccination. Also, inconsistencies of the declared information with real data were found in the documents.
