THE Real Madrid is champion of the Spanish Supercup. This Sunday, Carlo Ancelotti’s team won the Athletic Bilbao2-0 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Luka Modric, assisted by Rodrygo, and Karim Benzema, from the penalty spot, scored the goals at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
With the triumph, Real won 12 titles in the competition, which they hadn’t won since the 2019/20 season. In total, it’s a trophy away from the Barcelona, the biggest winner of the tournament.
The team from the capital returns to the field on Thursday, at 15:00 (Brasília time), when they visit Elche for the Copa del Rey round of 16. The Basque club, in turn, welcomes Barcelona, for the same phase, at 17:30 ( from Brasilia).
The game – Real Madrid, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, were superior in the first half: they created chances, put pressure on Marcelino’s team and opened the scoring. In the 37th minute, Modric received a pass from Rodrygo and, from the edge of the area, finished in first place. He hit the goalkeeper’s left angle and scored a great goal.
Back from the break, the You meringues extended the lead six minutes into the second half. After the ball hit Yeray’s arm in a shot by Benzema, the referee awarded a penalty after consulting VAR. The French striker hit hard and low, to the right of Unai Simón, and converted the penalty, guaranteeing the triumph by 2 to 0 and the title. In the 42nd minute, Raul Gárcia, from Bilbao, missed the maximum penalty, defended by Thibaut Courtois.
