There were several dozen offers. There were also my own ideas and concepts. The list was narrowed down to about 20 names, and longer or shorter interviews were held with about 10 coaches. The departure of Paulo Sousa from the national team made it loud in the middle of winter, and we can add one more to the group of many famous names who have thought about working with Poland. However, treating them should be more interesting and informative.

The fact that the willingness to work with Andrea Pirlo, Marco Giampaolo, Avram Grant, Juergen Klinsmann, Dick Advocaat, Fabio Cannavaro has expressed – more or less formally – makes a nice impression. In addition to this list, one more name should be added. As we found out, CEO Kulesza also called Cesare Prandelli’s agent at the beginning of the weekend. He asked whether the process of looking for a selector was still going on and whether the president would be interested in the meeting.

This is how the agent received information that the president was already completing the search process and had already selected three candidates.

This is Adam Nawałka, a trainer from abroad (most likely Cannavaro) and another coach from Poland. More on him later, as it may be a more complex matter. It is also worth mentioning who Kulesza focused more on during his search. According to our information, the president was the current coach of the best Lech in the league. It was Skorża who was the man with whom Kulesza talked for three hours and who was questioned by the president as one of the first. Skorża made a good impression.

It is known that the coach of “Kolejorz” attracts attention not only with the results, but also with the fact that he is no stranger to working with the national team. Not so long ago, he was leading the U-23 team of the United Arab Emirates. Of course, a separate issue is the question of his ongoing contract with Lech, but that is a topic for a different story. Who knows if Skorża is still not the mysterious Polish coach that Kulesza has in his three?

If it is not Skorża, then it is probably Maciej Stolarczyk. . Also because he is a coach of the U-21 team, and also a man who could be a liaison between the federation and the new staff. The fact that Kulesza would like to have his person in the staff is no secret. He wanted her when Paulo Sousa was the manager. And when he left for Flamengo, there was a break in the frame. The point is that there should be continuity in the representation: that the outgoing coach should not disappear with his notes and thoughts, and that younger coaches could also learn from the older ones. Such a coaching liaison was probably one of the factors discussed with each candidate for a managerial position.

As we hear these assistants – or liaison officers – there could even be two in the staff. In the ideal option, one of them could be, for example, Łukasz Piszczek, an outstanding representative of Poland. A man who knows most of the team members has recently been to the white and red locker room and, according to many, is material for an excellent trainer. Kulesza is said to persuade Piszczek to make another adventure with the team. Accepting such an idea would rather not be a problem when it comes to every Polish coach.

Returning, however, to the candidates for the main job – according to our information, Kulesza also talked to Marek Papszun. It was, however, more of a courtesy conversation, congratulations on the results, good luck, a suggestion that the president wanted someone with representative experience. Especially now, when before the most important match of the six months (in the semi-finals of the el. World Cup 2022 play-offs with Russia) the coach will train two times with the team. Moreover, Papszun extended his contract with Raków soon after this conversation.

The case stopped at a brief financial research and lived in people’s minds more as a cool idea than a viable option.

President Kulesza, on the other hand, spoke with Michał Prukaj, because the gentlemen know each other very well. However, it soon became clear to both sides that Prrób will not be the team manager for the time being. When this sounded, Prukaj decided that, according to further information, Kulesza also spoke (probably only by phone) with Kosta Runjaic. However, it is difficult to say anything specific about the talks with the coach of Pogoń Szczecin.

The case with Jan Urban is also enigmatic, as at the last press conference of Górnik Zabrze (before his departure to the Turkish training camp) he assured that the subject of the staff was a media topic. According to some signals, the president wanted to talk to him, although we do not have confirmation that such a conversation actually took place.

On Thursday evening, a little earlier than initially planned, a meeting with Adam Nawałka took place. . This is the main candidate for the selector. The talks ended around midnight were continued on Friday evening and Saturday. A further concept of the work of the staff, staff and probably also financial issues was discussed. Manager Jerzy Kopiec was also to participate in the talks as Nawałka’s representative. What is his role? It will probably focus on the issues of remuneration and bonuses. Let us add that Jerzy Kopiec cooperates with Pini Zahavi. The same Mound a few days ago was also represented by Fabio Cannavaro on behalf of Zahavi, when he came to Poland. In the relationship, there is a belief that it is the new manager of Nawałka who is responsible for creating the message that the manager has already been selected and that his client will be. As long as there are no signatures under the draft contract, it is difficult to prejudge something, but on the other hand, it is clear that Nawałka is currently the favorite for the selector.

According to our findings, if there is no earthquake on Sunday, the name of the new coach can be officially known even on Monday, January 17th. If both sides are impatient, maybe even on a Sunday evening? Anyway, in the new week the leitmotif in football should already be the team camp in March (probably from March 20) and the first World Cup play-off match with Russia (March 24 in Luzhniki).
