Sporting Lisboa gets its first win in the Champions League, after beating Besiktas 4-1 in Turkey

Sporting obtained oil on their visit to Besiktas, in a momentous duel for the future of both clubs in the Champions League and that pushed the Portuguese team forward after winning 1-4, for the third date of group C.

Both arrived at the meeting with zero points and last in the area after the first two days, so there was no more room for error. None could get something positive against Borussia Dortmund and Ajax and they had to score yes or yes.

The Sporting, more controlling and electric, took the lead in a round-trip duel in almost all its phases. The Portuguese team had more offensive weight in the aerial game than its rival and thus took the game.

It was precisely the head of the Uruguayan Sebastián Coates who was in charge of opening the scoring at 15 minutes, after a long corner kick by Gonçalo Inácio.

The joy did not last long for Sporting, who could not avoid the reaction of Besiktas. The Turkish team, also from a corner and with a header from Canadian Cyle Larin, raised the 1-1 on the scoreboard in the 24th minute.

Nevertheless, Coates came to the rescue to score in a traced play: corner, Paulinho head extension and Uruguayan shot, which cleared doubts with a second imperial header that goalkeeper Ersin Destanoglu could not save.

Before the break, the Sporting Lisboa hit the locals again and at minute 44 scored the third goal. Once again Coates won a corner at the top, which he hit in the hand of Croatian Domagoj Vida for the referee to decree a penalty and Pablo Sarabia was in charge of scoring.

Paulinho finished the commitment at minute 88, with a goal from outside the area. In the end, the 1-4 gave an extra life to Rúben Amorim’s men, who added their first three points in the Champions League. (D)
