It’s not over yet! Djokoviæ closed again by Australian services

On Friday, the visa was canceled again by the Australian government. “The decision was made for the sake of health and order and in the public interest,” Immigration Minister Alex Hawke wrote in a press release. Djoković’s lawyers appealed against this decision. The case of a Serbian tennis player is heard by the federal court.

On Saturday at 8am local time (10pm Polish time on Friday), Djoković was due to be questioned by the Australian Border Guard. On Sunday, the judge dealing with the case is expected to hear the arguments of the Djokovic camp. Then he will make a final decision whether the Serb will be allowed to stay in Australia or be deported from it. If everything ends in Djokovic’s way, he will be able to start on Monday.

The commotion around Novak Djokovic started more than a week ago. Before departing to Australia, the Serb admitted on Instagram that he had received an exemption from vaccination and was classified as a “medical exception”. Australian central authorities, however, did not want to let him into the country.

Upon arrival, the Serb spent the night at Melbourne airport. He was then transported to an immigration hotel. His visa was canceled but he appealed to the court. On Monday, a judge overruled the decision to deport the leader of the ranking. The Serbian tennis player has become free. However, this was not the end of his problems.

The media began to reveal a number of irregularities in the documents on the basis of which Djoković was admitted to Australia. was not to enter Spain in the travel forms, in which he stayed within 14 days before crossing the Australian border. He explained this with the “human but unintentional error” of his agent filling the paperwork. In addition, he was accused of meeting people in Serbia after obtaining a positive PCR test result, including with children from the tennis foundation, as well as with the journalist L’Equipe. As for the first meeting, the Serb defended himself that he found out about the test result only later, and the journalist “did not want to disappoint”.
