League of Legends developer Riot Games has an interesting change strategy. Minor modifications are present in the game all year round, fixing minor bugs, introducing balance or new characters. Between seasons, however, huge updates are made that change the way the game is perceived.
Chemtech Drake – Interseason novelty in League of Legends
Season 12 brought a lot of changes to League of Legends. One of the most severe was the modification of the dragons system. Then the Chemtech Drake was introduced, whose properties are a source of controversy.
How does Chemtech Drake work? A single stack increases the damage done to targets that currently have more health than the player. The modification of the map is much more controversial. It creates fog in certain places, and the heroes entering it receive a camouflage status, which makes them invisible to their rivals.

Chemtech Drake’s soul turns the contestants into zombies – literally. At the moment of death, the player cannot move for two seconds, and rivals cannot attack him. When time is up, it comes back alive for up to four seconds with eighty percent health.
The dragon in the heat of criticism
The introduction of Chemtech Drake, despite numerous updates and changes, is still criticized by players in the social media. Most of the dissatisfaction can be found on the English-language League of Legends subreddit.
Riot Games employees commented on one thread. Game developer Bryan Salvatore, under the pseudonym Axes, admitted that the company is aware of dissatisfaction with the update. Therefore, a survey has been launched to test the mood of the general gaming community, not just Reddit users. GreaterBelugaWhale, another Riot employee, added that if the company concludes that something is wrong, it will prioritize changing or removing it from the game.
