With the guarantee of Wendy Villon as technical director, Barcelona Sporting Club will aim high this season in women’s football in Ecuador. The three-time champion as coach of the Women’s Super League signed for one year with the Guayaquil institution to lead the bullfighters.
“I am grateful to God and life for giving me the opportunity to be in this wonderful institution such as Barcelona Sporting Club. We all know that it is the biggest club in the country. Now, what it touches is to assume this challenge with the greatest height and work hard so that the women’s team is stellar in the Women’s Super League: seek the title of champion, that the players in general are protagonists, that not one shine but all ”, said Villón in statements collected on social networks of the Canarian club.
The coach won the Superliga in 2019 with Deportivo Cuenca, in 2020 with El Nacional and in 2021 with the morlacas again. In the three seasons, the scoring contribution of the Guayaquil striker Madelin Riera was fundamental.
Villón promised “commitment, a lot of dedication and discipline. I think it is a fundamental part of the work that characterizes my coaching staff”.
According to the Barcelona website, the brand new strategist of the bullfighters led 54 games in the Women’s Super League, winning 43, drawing 4 and losing 7.
Regarding the signings that will arrive at the yellow store, Villón advanced: “The reinforcements are clear. Players are coming with an important contribution who are going to come here to add to the squad and that is going to be the main thing in search of the objective. They are players who have great ambition to be protagonists and seek the goal. Those who come and those who are understand what it means to wear this shirt”.
Prior to its current organization as the Superliga, Villón was also the women’s national champion another five times. With Rocafuerte, in 2013, he celebrated the first title of the tournament organized by the Ecuadorian Football Federation; then he took two other trophies.
