Milan beat Genoa in extra-time to qualify for Coppa Italia quarter-finals

This Thursday, Milan hosted Genoa in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia. Playing at San Siro, the home team came out behind, but dominated the actions of the match and turned the score around in extra time, consolidating the 3-1 victory.

In the first half, the visitors opened the scoring. In the 16th minute, defender Ostigard took advantage of a corner kick and scored the first goal of the match with a header.

At a disadvantage, Milan launched the attack and managed to balance the match. The home team, however, was not successful and went to the locker rooms, losing 1-0.

In the second stage, the hosts continued to press. Milan had possession most of the time and played in the attacking field. The team, however, had difficulties to create good chances of goal.

The insistence paid off and, in the 29th minute of the second half, Theo Hernandez received from the left side, rose in the area and found Giroud, who headed into the back of the net and tied the match.

The tie persisted on the scoreboard and the game went into overtime. In the additional time, the dynamics remained the same, with the home team in the attack, creating opportunities.

In the 11th minute of the first half of extra time, Rafael Leão received on the left wing and, practically without an angle, lifted the ball in the area for a cross, but ended up covering the goalkeeper and scoring a goal to put Milan in front.

In the final stage, Theo Hernandez was triggered by the left, entered the area and played for Saelemarkers, who calmly pushed towards the goal and closed the score at 3 to 1.

With the result, Milan qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition. Genoa, coached by Shevchenko, bid farewell to the tournament.

Earlier, too, in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia, Fiorentina beat Napoli away from home. The game was decided in overtime and featured three expulsions.

During regulation time, Vlahovic and Biraghi scored for Fiorentina, while Dries Mertens and Petagna scored for Napoli, the second already in stoppage time, taking the game to extra time.

In additional time, Venuti, Piatek and Maleh closed the score at 5-2 for the visiting team.
