Emelec frees goalkeeper John Mero with the intention of signing an outfield player

Mero participated in the 2021 season in the reserve of the blue team and was the captain.

Emelec is still pending the transfer window after this Thursday announced the release of a goalkeeper position with the intention of being able to register a foreigner or national, ultimately his eighth winter contract.

Goalkeeper John Mero was loaned to Deportivo Cuenca “for one year free of charge and without a purchase option,” according to the millionaire club on its official website.

Mero, 27, participated in the 2021 season in the reserve team of the blue team and was the captain. He took part in 22 games of that tournament, according to statistics provided by the official site of the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation.

In addition, he registers a call to the first Emelec squad for the Ecuador 2021 Super Cup match against October 9 in which he was a substitute for Adrián Bone, alternate for the star Pedro Ortiz.

With the departure of Mero, the quota of goalkeepers in the Spanish squad Ismael Rescalvo is left with Ortiz, Bone and Justyn Mina.

In recent days, the president of the millionaire team, Nassib Neme, told EL UNIVERSO that Emelec has not closed its pass book in the current winter market. Neme stated on Saturday that, if the institution managed to lend one of the goalkeepers, it would sign another outfield player, whether foreign or national.

The blue and lead cast so far has seven contracts to face the 2022 season. His last signing was the national attacker Jeison Chalá, who came from the Argentine Godoy Cruz.

In addition to Chalá, he has incorporated Eddie Guevara, Gustavo Canto, Roberto Garcés, Marcos Caicedo, Kevin Rivera and Mauro Quiroga. Ecuadorian Alejandro Cabeza was also bought, who was already in the electric cast last year on loan from Aucas. (D)
