Highlight and top scorer of Real Madrid this season, striker Karim Benzema is one of the 30 finalists for the Golden Ball award for the best player in the world in 2021, organized by the magazine France Footbal. In an interview with ESPN, the star revealed that he dreams of getting the feat.
“The Golden Ball is a goal I’ve always had in mind. When Cristiano Ronaldo won in the past and received the award in front of the crowd at the Bernabéu, I was happy for him. Happy to be part of his team, but then I thought: ‘Of course, I want to win too.’ I can say that I have never been so close to winning, as a result of my performances, for what I have done here in the last three or four years.
champion of League of Nations with France on October 10, Real No. 9 also cited Ronaldo Fenômeno and Zidane as inspirations to win the award.
“This was one of the many dreams I had as a child. Of course I dream about it. My idols, whether they are Ronaldo or Zidane, came to Real. I came here. They won the Golden Ball! on what I think,” commented the striker.
Since 2009 working at the Spanish club, Benzema has seen two of his teammates conquer the trophy for best of the season: Cristiano Ronaldo (2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017) and Luka Modric (2018).
In the 12 years of Real Madrid, the player took the field in 488 opportunities and shook the net 254 times. Benzema was also part of winning more than 20 titles, the main ones: four Champions Leagues, four Club Worlds and three Spanish Championships.
