Former footballer of the Russian national team Yuri Zhirkov commented on a possible career renewal. It is reported by Sport24.
The 38-year-old athlete is close to signing a contract with Khimki near Moscow, however, the final decision has not yet been made. Zhirkov assured that clarity on this issue will come on the evening of January 12.
Zhirkov noted that money does not matter to him now. The key motivation for his return to football is sports. According to the player, the Moscow Region club offered him a contract twice as modest as he had at Zenit.
On January 11, a member of the supervisory board of the Moscow Region club, Roman Teryushkov, said that Khimki was interested in concluding a contract with Zhirkov. “Everything will depend on further negotiations,” the Khimki management noted.
Zhirkov has not played in official matches since June. He left Zenit after the end of the 2020/2021 season and is a free agent.
