Norwegian cross-country skiing coach Thorstein Drynes made a statement over the use of banned racing lubricants by the team’s athletes at the Scandinavian Cup in Falun. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The specialist said that he was shocked by what happened, especially due to the fact that the athletes are doing it deliberately. He considered that this could lead to the removal of the Norwegian national team from the tournaments. “I think that sport is a fair game, and what is happening is not fair. Morally reprehensible, ”said Drynes.
The use of prohibited lubricants by skiers became known on January 11. The athletes used materials with a type of fluoride banned for sale in the European Union. It has been noted that such lubricants can provide a competitive advantage to skiers using them.
The International Ski Federation introduced a similar ban last summer.
