Djokovic made a statement after threatening to be in jail

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic made a statement about attending events after testing positive for coronavirus. His words are quoted by Reuters.

The athlete emphasized that he followed the testing obligations. He said that after attending an event at which cases of coronavirus infection were detected, he immediately passed several tests that were negative. After that, the tennis player attended an event in Belgrade, during which he presented awards to children. Djokovic added that he received a positive PCR test after the event.

At the same time, the tennis player noted that he gave an interview to L’Equipe two days after he learned that he had passed a positive PCR test for coronavirus. This is punishable in Serbia – a fine or imprisonment for up to three years.

On January 10, Djokovic won an appeal for deportation from Australia. The court agreed with the statement that the Serb had provided all the documents to enter Australia.

On January 5, Djokovic was denied entry to Australia, as his visa did not imply the entry into it of data on a medical withdrawal from vaccination against COVID-19. The athlete planned to take part in the Australian Open, which will take place from January 17 to 30.
