“I’m going to launch the team forward, not backwards”, says Jorge Jesus about duel with Bayern

This Tuesday, the coach of Benfica, Jorge Jesus, gave a press conference prior to the clash against Bayern Munich, for the Champions League. The former Flemish coach said that he “will launch the team forward” and that the possibility of being thrashed is not in the Encarnados’ minds.

“This hypothesis goes through the minds of many people, but not the minds of the coach and the Benfica players. Of course, many things can happen in the game, but we believe that we have our possibilities and we go into the game with the conviction that we can score points That’s why I’m going to push the team forward, not backward, with creative and fast players. We respect Bayern, but we don’t go into the game thinking we’ll be thrashed. We believe in our ability and we go into the game with the objective of winning. Then we’ll see what the game gives,” he said.

Jorge Jesus also highlighted the importance of adapting the team’s playing style according to the opponent, seeking to nullify the strengths.

“We always have to adapt, whether it’s against Bayern or Trofensa. There are coaches who say they always play with the same idea, but football is adaptation. We’ll try to undo Bayern’s strengths, they’ll try to do the same with we, not with individual markings, but with a good defensive organization to prevent them from playing between lines. If we have a good defensive organization, we will discuss the game,” he said.

Benfica and Bayern Munich will face each other this Wednesday, at 4 pm (GMT). The match will be at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.
