The Ecuadorian mountaineer had the previous records of ascent and descent in speed to these volcanoes; in three days he completed the two summits, once again.
The ecuadorian Karl Egloff set the record for speed climbing in the Cayambe and Cotopaxi volcanoes, marks with which it surpasses its own records of 2021 in the same summits.
“After the end of the year holiday, the weather in the Sierra has been spectacular. I decided to start the year with a lot of motivation and I launched myself to improve my 2021 marks in Cayambe and Cotopaxi. The mountains were really in the best possible condition, with hard snow and perfect weather, ”Egloff commented.
The Cayambe and the Cotopaxi are part of the proyecto Cumbres Chevrolet: Speed Climbing Challenge, that the tricolor began in January 2021.
Was the First his first challenge of the project, the summit that he conquered on January 5, 2021, arriving and descending from the summit in 2 hours 9 minutes.
One year later, Egloff managed to lower his record in five minutes, after reaching the summit last january 4. The tricolor departed from the Oleas Ruales Bergé refuge and traveled a total distance of 8 kilometers, round trip, with 1,200 m of positive elevation gain, completed in 2 hours 4 minutes 51 seconds.

On January 7, Egloff took on the challenge of the Cotopaxi, also to surpass his own record reached on October 19.
Egloff left the José Ribas refuge and in 1 hour 27 minutes 33 seconds completed the 5-kilometer ascent and descent path, with 1,100 meters of positive elevation gain.
“When I returned from Cayambe, I analyzed the state of the weather and excellent conditions were emerging for Cotopaxi as well. I jumped in, I really felt it was the perfect day, where everything lined up to lower my mark in 9 minutes. Records were made to be broken, ”Egloff said.

In 2021, Egloff broke the records for speed climbing in the North and South Iliniza. This year he is expected to continue with his project to establish the brands in Chimborazo and Antisana.
