Liverpool beat Shrewsbury Town 4-1 on Sunday in a match valid for the third round of the FA Cup. With the result, the Reds eliminate the team of the English third division and advance in the national tournament.
From the first minutes, Liverpool had most of the ball possession and control of the game, but had difficulties in attacking the opponent.
With an “alternative” lineup, Jurgen Klopp’s team, known for their high attack efficiency, could not be aggressive.
Shrewsbury, with a modest game proposal, bet on plays with few touches on the ball, such as counterattacks and direct throws. However, it was with a well-crafted play that the team opened the scoring. In the 27th minute, Daniel Udoh received a beautiful cross in the small area and counted on the failure of defender Konaté to score.
Seven minutes later, in a play set by youngsters, Kaide Gordon, just 17 years old, cut the marker and hit the corner low to tie the game and score his first goal as a professional.
At the end of the first half, defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell got his hand on the ball after a cross in the area and the referee signed the penalty for the Anfield team. The Brazilian Fabinho converted the charge and turned the match in favor of the Reds.
With a glaring difference between the two teams, Liverpool only managed the result in the second half. The team exchanged passes in the middle and was in no hurry to reach the third goal.
In the 33rd minute, however, after a beautiful shot in depth by Fabinho, the Japanese Minamino crossed in the area and the ball was left with the Brazilian Roberto Firmino, who had entered in the second half. With a lot of class, the attacker completed with a heel and swung the opponent’s nets.
In stoppage time, Fabinho took the rebound and hit a firecracker to score the fourth and seal the home team’s victory.
Another one that won by turn and also advanced in the competition was Tottenham. Spurs conceded, but counted on goals from Britain’s Harry Wiks and Harry Kane, in addition to a great goal from Lucas Moura, dribbling the goalkeeper, to triumph 3-1 over Morecambe.
